While you need to be calorie AWARE if you are trying to lose weight it is where your calories come from that count!! ALL CALORIES ARE NOT THE SAME and losing weight should never be just about calorie counting.
It always surprises me how many healthy foods are completely avoided by most people on weight loss plans e.g. nuts or seeds. I see people scour supermarket shelves to find a biscuit or a sweetie bar that is low in calories irrelevant of the fact it contains no nutrition whatsoever! Also eaten could be baked crisps, low calorie crackers, diet sodas, etc which are all RUBBISH!
If you need to buy crisps then make it the ones that resemble cut potato fried in oil e.g kettle chips. The rest have been boiled, mashed, additive added popped into a tube, possibly coated and then fried in poorer grade oil.
To be healthily both mentally and physically we need to eat optimal amounts of nutrients – so we need to eat nutrient rich foods like salads, fruit, lean protein, whole grains, oily fish, beans and pulses, etc We now have a country with plenty of people suffering obesity AND malnutrition!
Most biscuits are pure rubbish – full of cheap fats, white sugar and/or high fructose corn syrup combined with white refined flour. Biscuits damage our health and high consumption can be related to degenerative diseases e.g. obesity, heart disease. Fizzy drinks like coke and iron bru are even worse. Why are we eating and drinking this junk?! Sugar is ageing as it shortens our telameres disrupting our precious DNA.
If we are losing weight it is essential that the calories all come from real food and not junk! Superfoods such as greens and smoothies may help us add in loads of nutrients when shedding pounds.
